As I said in my last post, the prophet Elijah had no interest in public opinion polls, and neither should we. He didn’t lick his finger and stick it in the air to see which way the wind was blowing. The leather clad prophet from the back country of Gilead, had no inclination to please special interest groups. Elijah was not one to make promises to any audience for any reason, just to secure their support.
In short, Elijah wasn’t a politician, he was a prophet. His job was to speak the Word of God, period. It didn’t matter what God wanted him to say, even if God’s message was politically incorrect, Elijah said it anyway. If God’s message was offensive to some, or unpopular, Elijah still delivered it. Even if Elijah stood to lose his life, he was willing to deliver the message of God. We should be a fraction as faithful as Elijah, for Elijah was a man who stood up against those who opposed the truth.
