Good dads have a Biblical wisdom to know when to lighten up.
They know when Scripture is clear about moral imperatives and when it’s silent. If Scripture doesn’t specifically call for a line to be drawn, then it’s probably a good idea not to draw one. When Scripture is specific, then its time to get serious.
Unfortunately, we live in a culture where the concept of a godly parent is under assault. A father is most often portrayed as the jerk who comically attempts to impose moral restrictions upon his much wiser, and all knowing children.
In a world where it’s increasingly difficult to be a man, don’t make it harder on yourself by imposing strict, legalistic mandates on your family when it isn’t necessary. Save your energy for when the Scriptural admonition is clear and you must stand tall to draw the line.
