Love of Country

From Steve’s Library 1/128/2005

The prophet Elijah loved his country, but he couldn’t stand what was happening to it. So Elijah decided to take a trip to Jerusalem to speak directly to King Ahab. We don’t know how he got there or how he got past the guards to see the king. Ahab must have been shocked to see Elijah standing before him. You see, God had had it with Ahab in the worship of the false god Baal. Elijah was the man God could trust to deliver the message to Ahab.

Yet Elijah knew that Ahab and his wife Jezebel had executed every other prophet who had stood up to them. Never the less, Elijah plunged ahead in the face of, what seemed to him, to be certain death. Elijah spoke the truth. Elijah took a stand. He was not going to allow the moral corruption all around him to go unchallenged. Elijah was one of God’s men, and you can be the same today.
